29 March, Tunis: LDC Watch organised an event “Politics of Poverty and Development in the Least Developed Countries” at the World Social Forum 2013 in Tunis, Tunisia on 29th March 2013.
The meeting was attended by various civil society representatives from Africa, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific regions with a great enthusiasm.
The panelists highlighted politics of poverty in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) as a result of deliberate economic policy of international community and financial institutions.
Other issues raised by the panelists were the food crisis, financial crisis, climate crisis and debt crisis facing the Least Developed Countries warranting an alternate paradigm of development leading to positive change in LDCs.
The participants noted that the developed countries’ engagement in the LDCs has in fact curtailed the development process in the LDCs and, therefore, LDCs must have the rights and take responsibility of their own development process.
All those attending the event expressed their solidarity with LDC Watch to fight against capitalism and neo-liberal policies.
